In this role, you’ll work with terabyte-scale datasets and high-volume data systems, shaping data products that enable insight, performance, and data-driven decision-making across the organisation.You’ll collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, Solution Architects, and business stakeholders, playing a key role in defining data architecture, pipeline design, and governance standards in a cloud-first environment.
ResponsibilitiesLead the design and implementation of scalable ETL pipelines and data lakes in AWSDevelop and optimise data architectures for terabyte-scale relational and distributed data systemsCollaborate with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Architects to integrate data solutions into analytics platforms and applicationsTranslate non-technical business requirements into clear, actionable technical solutionsImplement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate and standardise deploymentsDrive performance optimisation through indexing strategies, query tuning, and scalable data modellingEnsure strong data governance, security, compliance, and quality controls across all environmentsAutomate workflows and enforce best practices for data quality, lineage, and reliabilityProvide peer review and QA support for data engineering deliverablesProduce clear, structured documentation for data pipelines, architectures, and operational processes
Requirements5+ years of hands-on experience working with terabyte-scale databases and high-volume data systemsStrong understanding of core data engineering principles, including: Logical and physical data modelling (normalisation & denormalisation), ETL design and orchestration, Performance optimisation and scalability, Data quality, governance, and securityAdvanced expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including SSRS, SSIS, and SSASProficiency with AWS Cloud services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and GlueExperience using Terraform for infrastructure automation and deploymentStrong ability to translate business and stakeholder requirements into technical designsSolid documentation skills, producing clear and maintainable technical artefactsAdvanced MS Excel skills (complex formulas, PowerPivot, VBA)Experience using Python for data wrangling, automation, or pipeline supportExposure to working across multiple cloud technologies and environmentsExperience with BI tools such as Power BI and/or TableauFamiliarity with AWS governance frameworks and compliance standardsDegree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar)
